Welcome

Welcome to Mobile Crisis Response in Action (STAND). This course is a fully virtual, self-paced professional-development experience. Use this handbook as the controlling learner guide for policies, procedures, support information, completion requirements, and expectations.

The Quick Guide tells you how to get started. The Course Syllabus describes the course and its learning outcomes. The Course Rubric explains how applicable work is evaluated. This Student Handbook contains the policies, expectations, procedures, and support information governing your learner experience.

Important
This is an illustrative white-label walkthrough. Enrollments, progress, submissions, survey responses, and certificates in this preview are local to the browser and are not saved to a learner record.

Learning outcomes

  • Apply the five STAND steps — Situational Awareness & Self-Regulation, Tone & Tactical Communication, Active Listening & Assessment, Navigate Options, De-escalation & Decisive Action — to a real mobile crisis call.
  • Regulate your own stress response and read a scene (people, risks, exits, changes) before engaging.
  • Use tone, pacing, reflection and validation to build rapport and assess safety, medical, substance-use and risk factors.
  • Weigh navigation options — rapport, warm handoff, 988, transport, diversion — and choose the least-restrictive, most-connected path with a 24–72 hour plan.
  • Adapt every STAND step for children, caregivers and families on scene.
  • Close a call with decisive, dignity-preserving action, documentation and handoff — and debrief to sustain yourself between calls.

Activities and course materials

  • 0 lesson items and 0 interactive scenarios.
  • 0 knowledge-check questions in the LMS bank.
  • 0 assessment items: none configured.
  • 3 course assignments and 1 capstone record are present in the LMS.
  • 0 stored document items plus partner-branded handbook, Quick Guide, syllabus, and brochure downloads.

Prerequisites: no course-level prerequisite is configured in the live LMS record. Learners should still have the role knowledge and professional context needed to participate safely.

Section 4

Technology requirements

Because this course is fully virtual, reliable access to the learning portal is part of participation. Use a current desktop or laptop when completing assessments, interactive scenarios, or file uploads.

  • Use a stable broadband or similarly reliable internet connection.
  • Use a current version of a modern browser such as Chrome, Edge, Firefox, or Safari.
  • Keep the browser and operating system updated. Enable JavaScript and cookies for the portal.
  • Use a PDF viewer for course documents and headphones or speakers for video/audio.
  • Allow pop-ups for the portal if a course resource opens in a new window.
  • Use a desktop or laptop for the best experience. Tablet and mobile access may work for reading and video, but small screens are not recommended for long responses or assessment work.
  • For an upload, use the file types and size shown by the activity. Do not upload confidential case information.
  • Protect your password, sign out on shared devices, and do not share account access.
If content does not load
Refresh once, confirm your connection and browser settings, try a private window or current alternate browser, and record the course, module, lesson, device, browser version, time, and any error message before contacting technical support.
Section 6

Course participation & progress

  • You are responsible for progressing through the course and completing required items.
  • Complete modules in the prescribed order wherever sequential navigation is enforced.
  • Progress is electronically tracked in the live platform. Do not mark an activity complete without completing it.
  • Use your own account and keep your credentials secure.
  • Course access is controlled by the live enrollment record. No course-level expiration value is configured in the current LMS record; a fixed access period therefore requires administrative confirmation before it is published.
Section 7

Course completion requirements

The live certificate gate for this approved course is more specific than simply clicking through the outline. The system requires:

  1. Completion of all active LMS item records in the course sequence.
  2. A passing knowledge-check attempt for every module that has knowledge-check questions.
  3. A passed post-assessment attempt at or above the configured 80% standard.
STAND assessment distinction
The Pre-Assessment (Baseline) is stored as a baseline and does not gate the certificate. The Post-Assessment (Certificate) must be passed. The current gate does not add a separate graded-assignment requirement for the STAND certificate, although the course contains reflection and capstone work for professional practice.

Knowledge checks, interactive scenarios, lesson items, and assessment items count as distinct LMS activities. Reflection assignments and capstones are listed in the course but their separate submission/grade requirements are not added to this course's current certificate-gate code.

Section 8

Assessments

The live course contains 0 scored assessment items:

    Passing standard
    80% on a post attempt
    Baseline
Stored, but never passes or gates the certificate
    Attempt storage
    Each submitted attempt is stored
    Certificate rule
Any passed post attempt can satisfy the post gate
Retakes and feedback require policy confirmation
The current assessment handler does not define a maximum attempt count or waiting period. It appends attempts and uses the passed post attempt for the certificate gate; it does not calculate a highest/latest aggregate. Question- level explanations are available for knowledge checks where stored, while the submitted assessment response returns score, pass status, and attempt data. A formal retake, waiting-period, and feedback policy is ADMINISTRATIVE POLICY REQUIRED before publication.

Complete assessments independently and demonstrate your own understanding. Do not share assessment questions or answers or use unauthorized assistance.

    Section 9

    Reflection & rubric-graded work

Reflections and assignments connect course concepts to professional practice. Follow each activity's instructions, use de-identified examples, write clearly, and submit only your own work through an authorized portal process.

    • STAND in Your Own Words · 100 points
    • Reflect & Validate: Script Practice · 100 points
    • Children & Families Adaptation Plan · 100 points

Capstone: Capstone: Your Personal STAND Response Plan.

The live assignment rubric is the controlling grading document. The labels Exemplary (4), Proficient (3), Developing (2), Beginning (1) may appear in a master rubric, but those labels alone do not replace the current course assignment rubric.

In the live platform, feedback and resubmission are governed by the activity and instructor configuration. No universal resubmission rule is stored at the course level; ADMINISTRATIVE POLICY REQUIRED before publication.

    Section 10

    Grading & feedback

    • Scored assessments are graded by the server using the assessment's stored answer key; the client does not determine the authoritative result.
    • Knowledge checks reinforce learning and have stored explanations where configured.
    • Rubric-graded work is evaluated against the live assignment rubric, not this handbook.
    • Review the displayed score and feedback before asking for a result review.
    • If a result appears inconsistent with your submission, document the course, activity, attempt time, and specific concern and use the result-appeal path below.
    Section 11

    Certificate of completion

The credential associated with this course is a Certificate of Completion. The current course record is not credit-eligible and does not establish academic credit, a PDU, a CEU, or a professional license. Its certification note says completion tracking is suitable for CEU/CEH documentation; that is not a promise that this course awards CEUs or CEHs.

    • It is issued after the active-item, knowledge-check, and passed post-assessment gates close.
    • In the live platform, it appears in the learner's certificate area and can be downloaded.
    • The certificate includes a verification number that an employer or other authorized reviewer can check through the public verification page.
    • Correct a name before issuance where possible. A replacement/name-correction process is not configured in the current demo; ADMINISTRATIVE POLICY REQUIRED.
    • If a certificate does not generate, confirm the completion requirements and contact certificate support with the course code and learner email.
    Section 12

    Academic integrity policy

Learners must submit their own work and complete assessments independently unless collaboration is expressly authorized.

    • No sharing assessment questions or answers.
    • No copying another learner's work, plagiarism, impersonation, falsifying completion, or obtaining unauthorized answers.
    • No unauthorized assistance during assessments or misrepresentation of learning activities.

Possible consequences, proportionate to the concern and history, include a warning, redo requirement, invalidated assessment or submission, temporary restriction, course removal for serious or repeated violations, or referral for administrative review.

Students receive a fair opportunity to explain the concern and appeal an administrative or instructional decision through the result-appeal path.

    Section 13

    Artificial intelligence policy

AI may be used for learning support where an assignment does not prohibit it, including brainstorming, explaining concepts, study assistance, and proofreading. The learner remains responsible for accuracy, factual verification, originality, and any required attribution or disclosure.

    • AI may not complete a scored assessment, impersonate the learner, generate prohibited work submitted as entirely the learner's own, circumvent learning requirements, or obtain/distribute assessment answers.
    • Never enter confidential client, patient, agency, case, or personally identifiable information into a public AI system.
    Section 14

    Professional conduct policy

    • Communicate respectfully and use professional language.
    • Do not harass, intimidate, threaten, or disrupt other learners, instructors, or support staff.
    • Respect diverse viewpoints and participate constructively in discussion or community spaces.
    • Follow the platform's instructions and treat instructors and support staff appropriately.
    Section 15

    Confidentiality & case information policy

Do not submit identifiable information about patients, clients, consumers, victims, minors, coworkers, agencies, or cases unless an activity specifically provides an authorized secure process. Case examples must be de-identified.

    Never place confidential information in
Reflections, discussion boards, public or consumer AI systems, unsecured uploads, or support tickets. Use role, age range, setting, and changed details rather than names, exact dates, addresses, case numbers, or other identifiers.
    Section 16

    Educational / professional disclaimer

    Read before applying course concepts
This course is educational in nature and does not replace emergency services, professional licensure requirements, clinical supervision, employer or agency protocols, professional judgment, applicable law, or emergency-response procedures. In an actual emergency, follow your organization's procedures and contact the appropriate emergency services.
    Section 18

    Privacy & learner data

The live platform may maintain information needed to operate the course, including enrollment, progress, completion, assessment results, reflection submissions, certificate data, a verification number, and support interactions.

Protect your login credentials and use only your own account. This public walkthrough intentionally does not write learner records, submissions, survey responses, or certificates.

    Section 19

    Accessibility & accommodations

University of South Florida and the platform are committed to equitable access in the learner experience. Request a reasonable accommodation or accessible format before beginning an activity when possible, and report content that is inaccessible or difficult to use.

    Contact configuration status
No accessibility/accommodation contact is configured in the current white-label demo. ADMINISTRATIVE CONTACT REQUIRED before this handbook is published as a live Ashland, UNG, or USF student policy.

This handbook uses semantic headings, keyboard-accessible controls, descriptive links, responsive layout, alt text, sufficient contrast, and print styling. The downloaded PDF remains a demo deliverable and requires tagged-PDF verification before live publication.

    Section 26

    Nondiscrimination & equal access

Learners are entitled to an educational environment free from unlawful discrimination and harassment. Equal access is supported through reasonable accommodations and an appropriate review process.

Named nondiscrimination reporting channel is not configured in this demo. ADMINISTRATIVE CONTACT REQUIRED.

    Section 27

    Student wellbeing

Crisis-response and mental-health content can be emotionally challenging. Pause when needed and use appropriate personal, community, employer, or professional support resources. Education and peer support are not emergency assistance, clinical treatment, or a substitute for professional care.

If there is an actual emergency
Follow your organization's emergency procedures and contact the appropriate emergency services. Do not use this course, its discussion area, or a support ticket as an emergency channel.

Wellbeing resource and escalation contact are not configured. ADMINISTRATIVE CONTACT REQUIRED.
